Shortly after Ford announced that production of the Fiesta will soon be terminated, news of the “cut” of other well-known models arrives.
The end awaits two MPVs: S-Max and Galaxy. Furthermore, none of the cars will apparently receive a similarly oriented successor. According to the Ford Authority website, the automaker will stop production of these spacious family vehicles at its Valencia, Spain plant in April next year.
You will surely invent the reasons yourself. The first is the shift to electromobility, the second is a change in the interest of customers. The American brand wants to sell exclusively electric cars in Europe by 2030 at the latest. This is also why they will present seven new battery-powered cars by 2024, including, for example, the electric Puma or a crossover using the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform. There is also talk of an electrical spiritual successor to the Focus.
And with interest, the demand for classic MPV models has been declining for a long time, customers prefer large SUVs and crossovers.
The Ford Galaxy appeared in the brand’s offering in 1995, as a sister to the Volkswagen Sharan and the Seat Alhambra. Currently, the carmaker offers the third generation, which entered the market in 2015. According to the Motor1.com website, Ford has sold more than 820,000 units in Europe.
Smaller, but also seven seats, the S-Max is a younger car. It went on sale in 2006, coming together with the second generation of Galaxy: both models were already using the new platform. The second generation, introduced in 2015, is now on sale. Ford has sold approximately 570,000 units in Europe so far.
