The Sanremo Festival 2021 was marked by controversy which, as often happens, have little or nothing to do with music. Consequence of the participation of “artists” who make provocation their trademark, regardless of whether they can offend the faith of millions of viewers – indeed, perhaps precisely with this aberrant objective.
Thus, in the event that has just ended, vulgar parodies of the Christian Creed were staged, all the more serious because they were transmitted in a sacred time, without regard even for the Friday of Lent: to the point of arousing the indignation of HE Mons. The 71st edition of the Italian Song Festival in Sanremo ended on 6 March: an event that should be an expression of the entire nation, uniting all Italians under the one, great banner of music.
However, once again Rai decided to stage vulgar and offensive representations, especially towards the Christian faith. And the fact that it had already happened in the recent past justifies the suspicion that State TV has abdicated its role of public service, to become the bearer of incomprehensible and unacceptable partisan demands.
As if in fact the umpteenth genuflection to gender, sexual indifferentism and “fluid sexuality” had not been sufficiently serious, here are also the Blasphemous “performances” and beyond the limit of decency of an “artist” who does not even deserve to be mentioned: which was also supported by the co-host Rosario Fiorello, who, moreover, had just received the “City of Sanremo” award.
«Not in my name” commented HE Mons. Antonio Suetta, Bishop of Ventimiglia-Sanremo, in a speech full of indignation, aimed at “comforting the faith” of the little ones “” and “exhorting the duty to just reparation for the offenses directed against Our Lord, the Blessed Virgin Mary and the saints, repeatedly perpetrated through a public service and in the sacred time of Lent“. Detail, the latter, which demonstrates a further lack of respect, unworthy of a broadcaster that should represent its audience indiscriminately, without establishing de facto absurd discrimination between series A and series B viewers.
We therefore ask that the CEO of Rai Fabrizio Salini undertakes to ensure that the public service, also in consideration of its enormous social value, never again broadcasts offensive and blasphemous demonstrations such as those broadcast during the last Sanremo Festival.
