Taliban prohibits its members from taking selfies or selfies, uploading them on social media and traveling at tourist attractions. They considered it incompatible with Islamic values and damaged the image of the Taliban.
The instruction was delivered by the Taliban-era Afghan interim defense minister, Mohammad Yaqoob.
Yaqoob criticized some of his members who went to government offices, even though they had no urgent business, but only took selfies.
“This is very inappropriate because everyone takes cell phones and takes photos in important and sensitive ministries without any reason,” Yaqoob was quoted as saying. Reuters.
In addition Yaqoob warned his militiamen who took selfies with senior members of the group. If the photos appeared on social media, he continued, they could jeopardize the security of the Taliban.
“You are ruining our status which was created with the blood of our martyrs,” he was quoted as saying by Newsweek of the WSJ.
