Not five but three weeks between two Pfizer shots

The waiting time between the first and second shot of Pfizer’s vaccine will be shortened from five to three weeks, but only for those who have yet to receive an invitation. This was decided by the Flemish Agency for Care and Health in consultation with the cabinet of Flemish Minister of Welfare Wouter Beke (CD&V) and was confirmed to The standard.

The term will be shortened in order to get the vaccination rate as high as possible before the start of the new school year. The Pfizer vaccine is the only one approved in the European Union for minors, so the measure is especially important for 12 to 15-year-olds. This age group can expect an invitation for a vaccination from Monday evening. 16 to 17-year-olds who have not yet received an invitation can also benefit from the new term. Specifically, the interval is reduced to 21 days, with a margin of two days before or after.

For those who already have an appointment, or who have already had their first shot with the Pfizer vaccine, the interval remains at five weeks. That appointment cannot be brought forward. Those who cannot accept the invitation due to holidays, for example, will receive a new call at the end of August or at the beginning of September.

The interval was initially three weeks, but in order to be able to give more people a first shot faster, the term for Pfizer was extended to five weeks in the spring. The vaccination campaign is now much further along and there is sufficient stock available, so the deadline can be revised. Teenagers can also register on the Qvax reserve list, so that they can get their turn faster.
