Edemissen basketball player Kai Noske associates the best year of his life with his number 11. He had spent that as an exchange student in the United States of America and of course he also did his favorite sport at the local high school in Texas. Rather by chance, the 34-year-old got his jersey number during this time – because he wasn’t exactly decisive.

“I stood there for ages and thought about it,” recalls Kai Noske and laughs. It was about which number he wanted to wear on the team. “The others have been playing together since the fifth grade, so to speak. Everyone had their own number and also a certain relationship with her. Then there were the 11, the 13 and any number still free, ”reports the Edemissener.

He stood and considered. “The rest of them were getting impatient because they wanted to train,” says Noske, who grabbed the number 11 without further ado. He didn’t have a real relationship with this number, but his teammates did it for him. In the school hallway, one of his colleagues spoke to him with “eleven” – that is, eleven. “So that was my nickname for the rest of the year.”

The high school basketball coach also called the Edemissener that. “That was because my name was too difficult for him. Of course, Kai Noske doesn’t sound that American, ”explains the 34-year-old, who likes to remember the time. He trained with his team ten times a week, twice a day. The county league finished Noske and Co. in first place and also came far in the playoffs. And since then, “eleven” has also been wearing the number 11 when he is hunting for points for TSV Edemissen in the national league.
