The realization of foreign investment in the first quarter of 2022 was Rp. 147.2 trillion. That amount reached 52% of the realization of investment in the country.
So far, when it comes to foreign investment, China is always said to have poured the most funds into Indonesia. In fact it’s not. Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia explained that Singapore was the number one country to invest in Indonesia.
Foreign capital realized from Singapore reached US$ 3.6 billion or around Rp 51.4 trillion (exchange rate of Rp 14,300). According to Bahlil, that much money doesn’t necessarily belong to all Singaporeans.
So far, according to him, Singapore has become an investment hub. In fact, there is a possibility that some Indonesian money will be invested through Singapore.
“First, this is Singapore. Once again I say don’t be fooled by this data in the context of the country of origin, because this Singaporean I don’t believe it’s all Singaporeans. Singapore is just a hub. Some Indonesians too, they build companies there and then invest here. This has been confirmed by our marketing intelligence,” said Bahlil in a virtual press conference, Wednesday (27/4/2022).
Furthermore, in second place is Hong Kong with the realization reaching US$ 1.5 billion or around Rp. 21.45 trillion. Only then was China in third place with a total investment of US$ 1.4 billion or Rp. 20 trillion.
“This is evenly distributed, China or China is down to number 3, number 2 Hong Kong. So please let me know if there is good data on social media, don’t mislead. That it seems as if our country’s investment is controlled by one particular country. “Don’t use hoax data,” said Bahlil.
Furthermore, according to Bahlil, there are Japan and the United States which have just entered the top 5 largest foreign investments in Indonesia since 2021.
Japan is noted to be in fourth place with realized investment of US$ 825 million or around Rp. 11.7 trillion and the United States in the next position with realized investment of US$ 628 million or around Rp. 8.9 trillion.
“Japan and America did not enter the top 5 in the first quarter of 2021. But starting in the fourth quarter they entered, so this is evenly distributed,” said Bahlil.
