In Loire colleges, it’s simple, there is nothing. No air purifier in the establishments since the departmental council has not released a specific budget to equip them.
A regional envelope of 10 million euros
Unlike the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region which has helped high schools who wanted it: about thirty high schools in the Loire (less than half of the establishments) have bought air purifiers. Between 2 and 15 devices are installed in the canteens. The regional council has released an envelope of 10 million euros to deploy air purifiers, including 5 million euros for high schools alone. Its goal is for 2,000 air purifiers and 3,000 CO2 sensors to be installed in these establishments.
A significant cost for small towns
In primary schools, it is variable. An air purifier costs more than 1,000 euros. But municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants could request aid from the Region, which covered 80% of the bill. In Firminy, 14 devices have been installed in the 5 school restaurants in the city. Same thing in Villars or Farnay, 1,400 inhabitants, but also in Roanne, which was also able to receive regional aid. On the other hand, none of this in the large municipalities. No purifier in Saint-Chamond, Rive-de-Gier, Montbrison or Saint-Etienne.
