Not accepting the witness being intimidated, Rizieq argues with the prosecutor

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

The defendant in the crowd in Petamburan, Rizieq Shihab had an argument with yak the public prosecutor in a high-pitched tone at the East Jakarta District Court, Cakung, Jakarta, Monday (12/4).

Rizieq assessed that the prosecutor had intimidated the witness presented, namely the former Mayor of Central Jakarta Bayu Megantara. According to Rizieq, the prosecutor asked questions repeatedly.

The argument started when the prosecutor asked Bayu about the number of people who attended the Prophet Muhammad SAW’s birthday in Petamburan in November 2020. Bayu admitted that he could not estimate the number with certainty because he did not directly monitor it in the field.

“In total not. I think there are quite a lot of people,” Bayu replied.

The prosecutor felt that Bayu did not give a satisfactory answer. The prosecutor then repeated his question to Bayu.

“In what quantity?” asked the prosecutor again.

“I can’t confirm the amount there, sir. Because I can’t see it directly,” said Bayu.

Hearing this, Rizieq immediately interrupted him by asking the panel of judges for permission. Rizieq admitted that he objected by asking the prosecutor who was considered repeated and intimidating to the witness.

“Panel of Judges Interruption, Sorry panel of judges. Panel of judges interruption. The prosecutor repeated the same questions, the defendant also answered the same question. I think that’s enough, it doesn’t need to be repeated. Prosecutors don’t intimidate witnesses,” said Rizieq.

As if they did not accept it, it was considered intimidating, the prosecutor emphasized that the question was normal.

“It’s not intimidation,” said the prosecutor.

“That’s intimidation,” said Rizieq again.

Seeing that the argument occurred, the prosecutor then stopped to finish the question with the witness.

“Okay, I’ll stop. I’ll stop,” added the prosecutor.

The Panel of Judges led by Suparman Nyompa mediated the debate. He then asked the prosecutor to move on to the next question to prevent debate.

“It’s been a while. It’s about [jumlah massa] Can’t be sure [oleh saksi], “said Suparman.

Rizieq himself is undergoing a further trial for the crowd case in Petamburan and Megamendung on Monday (12/4) today. Some of the witnesses presented were Bayu Megantara to the former Central Jakarta Police Chief, Kombes Pol. Heru Novianto.
