Mental health in focus
The Society for the Promotion of Mental Health GmbH (GFSG) has set itself the goal of offering advice and therapy for people with mental health problems and providing information on prevention. Together with the Styrian Health Fund and the Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection, the GFSG organizes the event series “Mental Health in Focus”. In psychiatry, hearing voices is usually associated with schizophrenia or psychosis in general. In contrast, findings from specialized voice hearing research show that voices should no longer be viewed as a sign of illness. The lecture presents the specialized practice of experience-focused counseling, which regularly shows that voices are not only understandable in terms of life history, but even represent a vital resource on a person’s path to recovery.
