The appointment of Louis van Gaal as the new national coach of the Dutch national team is only a matter of time. The NOS has been confirmed by ‘sources in Zeist’ that the talks between the union and Van Gaal are ‘in the concluding phase’.
Van Gaal was already national coach between 2000 and 2002 and was given another chance ten years later. Then he managed to guide the Orange to third place at the World Cup in Brazil. A third period is approaching: the news that Van Gaal will be the successor of Frank de Boer has been singing for some time.
The sources that the US cites also confirm that Van Gaal has Danny Blind and Henk Fraser in mind as assistants. Blind was the captain of Ajax during the time that Van Gaal was active as a trainer in Amsterdam. During the 2014 World Cup, Blind was also Van Gaal’s assistant.
