ANPT Used electric cars in a showroom

The subsidy for new electric cars will remain 2,950 euros next year. State Secretary Heijnen (Infrastructure) writes in a letter to Parliament that she is reversing a proposed reduction in the subsidy. The CDA member is shocked by the lagging demand from consumers for clean cars.

The subsidy for electric cars is called the SEPP subsidy. This year you can get 2950 euros for a new electric car. The condition is that the car does not cost more than 45,000 euros. A subsidy of 2,000 euros is available for second-hand electric cars.

Car buyers will largely ignore the subsidy for electric cars this year, it was announced last month. Trade organizations BOVAG and ANWB also hear from car dealers that there is less demand.

Phased out gradually

Royal RAI Association says it appreciates the State Secretary’s step. “However, this is a small step in the right direction; more action is urgently needed. Such as continuing subsidies from 2025 and tax incentives,” writes the trade association.

The subsidy for new fully electric cars amounted to 4,000 euros in 2021 and was then gradually phased out. The idea behind this was that electric cars would become cheaper over the years. As a result, less subsidy would be needed to persuade people to make a purchase.
