In the last days and large parts of January, the snow chaos has affected Norwegians’ everyday life. To DinSide, the travel companies TUI Norge, Ticket Feriereiser and Apollo confirm that there are many people who want to get away from the snow and cold.
– There is nothing that affects Norwegians’ desire to travel more than the weather, and there is no doubt that the icy start to the year has accelerated holiday bookings, Beatriz Rivera, communications manager at Apollo, tells DinSide.
– It is true that we see the same thing. Many jump at a good offer already this winter to get away as quickly as possible, says Anne Løwengreen, communications manager at TUI Norway, to DinSide.

Løwengreen points out that it is a well-known phenomenon that the weather affects our desire to travel.
– Winter came early and has been both colder and more snowy than normal in many places. When you stand outside shoveling snow for the third time in the same day, it’s easy to dream away to the sun.
Apollo informs that they had a sales increase of 50 per cent compared to the last two weeks in December, and that January sales have increased by 15 per cent compared to last year.
– There are mainly two things Norwegians secure now: spare places for warmer temperatures to get away from blizzards and biting cold, says Rivera.

Escapes to the Canary Islands
The three travel companies single out the Canary Islands as the winter’s most popular travel destination.
– With Gran Canaria in the lead, followed by Tenerife and Fuerteventura, says Rivera.
– To get the famous sun guarantee, the Canary Islands apply in winter, says Løwengreen.
