Last year, insurance fraud for NOK 344 million was uncovered, according to figures from Finans Norge. That is 12.25 percent less than the previous year.
– It is natural to have some fluctuations from year to year, but we fear more insurance fraud in bad times, says communications manager at Finans Norge, Stine Neverdal, to NTB.
Although the sums have fallen, the number of cases has increased by 7 per cent.
– There are more men than women who commit fraud, and the fraudsters come from all walks of life across the country. There are also people over 80 who commit fraud, says Neverdal P4 News.
Most of the cases concern non-life insurance, while the amounts are greatest for fraud with sickness and disability insurance.
