Norwegians can travel to Greece with expired passports
Norwegians can now travel to Greece with their expired passport as identification. This will apply until the end of 2022.
It reports NTB.
In a letter sent to the Norwegian embassy in Athens on Tuesday this week, Greek authorities opened up for Norwegians to travel to Greece with a passport that expired less than three years ago.
– Greek authorities recognize the challenges the Norwegian authorities have in issuing travel documents due to high demand, and have therefore agreed to accept Norwegian travel documents that expired during the last three years for identification purposes in Greece for the rest of the year, the Greek embassy writes in Oslo in an email to NTB.
There are somewhat different rules for people under and over 16 years.
– From the Norwegian side, the scheme means that people over the age of 16 can identify themselves with a passport that expires for less than three years before entering Greece. Children under the age of 16 can identify themselves with a passport that expired less than one year before entering Greece. Shredded passports can not be used, the Ministry of Justice writes in an email to NTB.
The Greek embassy states that they also do not mind that Norwegians use driver’s licenses to identify themselves in Greece until the end of 2022, but the Norwegian authorities have not yet opened up for this.
