On Monday afternoon local time, a Norwegian woman was found dead on the beach in South Carolina, USA.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms the incident to VG and states that next of kin have been notified.
– The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is aware that a Norwegian citizen has died in the USA. We cannot comment further due to confidentiality obligations, says spokesperson Ragnhild H. Simenstad.
According to local media, the woman should have been on the beach in Hilton Head, an island in the state of South Carolina, with her friend. It was the friend who discovered the 26-year-old lifeless.
It is not yet known why the two visited Hilton Head.
The autopsy report is expected to be ready on Friday, according to the local police investigating the death.
Since the beginning of the year, the district where the Norwegian woman was found has had between four and five drownings, according to the chief who speaks in the local media. The other drowning accidents are said to have occurred in rivers.
