Pentagon: Norwegian tanker avoided missile attack in the Red Sea

A Norwegian tanker narrowly avoided being hit in a drone attack in the Red Sea on Saturday evening, the US Department of Defense says.

At 20:00 local Yemen time, the US military’s regional command (Centcom) received reports from two ships in the southern part of the Red Sea that they were under attack. This is what Centcom writes on the messaging service X, formerly known as Twitter, on the night of Sunday.

– M/V Blaamanen, a chemical/oil tanker that sails under the Norwegian flag, is Norwegian-owned and Norwegian-operated, narrowly avoided being hit by a Houthi drone. No injuries to persons or destruction were reported, writes Centcom.

The second vessel, the M/V Saibaba, an oil tanker with owners in Gabon and sailing under the Indian flag, reported being hit by a drone. No people on board this one were hit either.

The USS Laboon patrols this part of the Red Sea. The naval vessel responded to the distress signals from both ships. The American naval vessel was also under attack. Four drones were heading towards the ship, but all were shot down.
