Norwegian software giant Visma is taking over the Ghent scale-up Teamleader for an undisclosed amount. Teamleader remains autonomous and founder Jeroen De Wit remains on board.

Financial details will not be released, except that Visma – a specialist in software for SMEs – is buying out all shareholders. In addition to the management, these were the funds Fortino Capital, Keen Venture Partners and PMV.

Visma CEO Merete Hverven assures in a conversation with Trends that Teamleader will remain a separate brand and product and that founder Jeroen De Wit will not leave.

Visma probably rings a bell with the Belgian as a cycling sponsor. The Team Jumbo-Visma team grew into one of the toppers, thanks to its Belgian star Wout van Aert.

Visma CEO: ‘Logical step’

But Visma also wants to lead the pack in the world of business software. With a turnover of 2.1 billion euros, it is a lot smaller than Microsoft and SAP, but it is already present in 28 countries – mainly European.

Teamleader achieved a turnover of 20 million euros last year.

Visma acquired 42 companies last year, Trends reports. This year the counter is already at more than 30, including the Ghent Teamleader.

CEO Hverven describes the acquisition of Teamleader as a logical addition to the portfolio. ‘Teamleader’s corporate culture, ambition and software fit in perfectly with ours’, she says in Trends. “Teamleader also makes software that is crucial to running a business and that simplifies complex processes, using modern cloud technology.”

Teamleader was founded in July 2012 from the website builder that De Wit had set up with two fellow students at the university of applied sciences. It achieved a turnover of 20 million euros last year and has 180 employees. It is active in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy and Germany.
