Norwegian Ski Jumper Halvor Egner Granerud Criticizes New Suit Rules After Crash in Lillehammer

– I remember that my right ski disappeared, so I don’t remember sliding down the hill. I don’t know if it was the adrenaline that made it go black or if the head just went black, Granerud tells the state channel.

It was on Tuesday that Granerud lost control in Lysgårdsbakken in Lillehammer. National team manager Alexander Stöckl describes it as a real blow, but the 27-year-old still came away with “only” bruises.

– It was very good to hear that there is no break, that I am just beaten. It goes by quite quickly, says Granerud.

The fall came when the ski jumpers were to test their new suits. There have been new rules which mean that the jumpers have to wear tighter and smaller jumping suits, which Granerud is very critical of.

– It becomes more dangerous to jump far. We have to have more speed, go higher and land harder. For the same lengths. I am not very happy with that. I want it to be as safe as possible for myself, so I can jump as many jumps as possible, says Granerud.
