Norwegian Sees 41% Increase in Net Profit in First Nine Months of 2023

Copenhagen, Nov 2 (EFECOM).- The low-cost airline Norwegian recorded a net profit of 1,584 million Norwegian crowns (134 million euros) in the first nine months of 2023, 41% more year-on-year.

Operating profit improved by 24% to 1,904 million Norwegian crowns (161 million euros), while revenue rose to 19,622 million crowns (1,659 million euros), which represents a year-on-year increase of 41%, the airline reported today. .

Norwegian earned 2,039 million crowns (172 million euros) net between July and September, more than double the previous year.

Operating profit, the second-largest quarter in Norwegian history, doubled to 2.17 billion crowns (183 million euros) and revenue increased 23% year-on-year to 8.776 billion crowns (742 million euros).

The company’s liquidity position improved by 15% year-on-year to 9.4 billion crowns (795 million euros).

Norwegian carried 6.5 million passengers in the third quarter, up 7%.

At the end of the third quarter, the Norwegian airline had a fleet of 85 aircraft, which it hopes to increase to around ninety next summer.

Norwegian has been going through financial problems in recent years, aggravated in 2019 by the temporary flight ban of the Boeing 737 MAX and problems with the Rolls Royce engines, and exacerbated by the coronavirus crisis.

The airline completed a double reconstruction process in Ireland and Norway in May 2021, after creditors agreed to renegotiate the debt from 80 billion crowns to between 16 billion and 18 billion (from 7,856 to between 1,571 and 1,768 million euros).

The company abandoned its commitment to long-distance flights to focus on internal routes in Norway, and between the Nordic countries and the main European destinations. EFECOM
