Snow, wind and heavy snowdrifts will make conditions on the road very demanding, writes the Norwegian Public Roads Administration in a press release.
The Norwegian Road Administration states that they have plowed the main road continuously in recent days and brought in extra resources and heavier equipment from other parts of the country. The break-in frequency is increasing, car rescuers have been deployed in vulnerable locations, and checks have been carried out on vehicles and tire equipment.
– However, we cannot be everywhere all the time. On Tuesday afternoon and evening, we have had incidents on the E18 between Kristiansand and Tvedestrand, which have led to roadblocks, major delays and sometimes long-term stoppages in traffic. We are concerned that situations may arise that are beyond our control, says department director Tore Jan Hansen in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
The Norwegian Meteorological Institute has warned that the weather will get worse before it gradually improves. Hansen reminds of his father with a lot of snow, strong wind and powerful snowpack.

– The combination of these conditions affects accessibility on the roads in a very serious way – with very difficult driving conditions and poor visibility. Conditions are expected to get worse tonight and into the morning hours on Wednesday.
Although there has been less traffic on the roads in Agder in recent days, Hansen says that the National Road Administration still feels that there are a disturbing number of people out and about, despite clear calls from both the Road Administration, the police and other road owners.
– That’s why we repeat: Leave the car if you have no urgent need to travel on the roads in Agder tomorrow. Do not put yourself or others in a difficult situation. It will take longer than usual to get help. And help ensure that the roads are open for those who have important functions related to life and health, urges Hansen.
Hansen states that the National Road Administration may ultimately have to close all or part of the E18 through Agder.
