Norwegian Prime Minister fined for quarantine violation – Worldwide

Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Sulberg has been fined 20,000 kroons (2,000 euros) for violating the rules of the quarantine regime because her 60th birthday party had more people than allowed by the rules, police said on Friday.

A fine was imposed in connection with two celebrations at the end of February at the ski resort Geilo. They had gathered members of the prime minister’s family.

One episode of the violation was in a restaurant, and the other in a rented house, where the participants of the celebration gathered for a sushi meal.

In each of these cases, 13-14 people gathered, however, according to the quarantine requirements, the number of people could not exceed ten.

Sulberg apologized for the incident as soon as the general public became aware of it.

“I needed to know better,” the prime minister told NRK.

“A person like me, who tells others every day about protection against infection, needed to know the rules better,” Sulberg said.

A police investigation into these events was launched.
