Norwegian politics, Politisk Kvarter | Listhaug lashed out at LO in the NRK study: – They can blame themselves

There is full controversy over oil exploration after SV the 26th licensing round has been discontinued in budget negotiations with the government.

LO rages against SV and the government, which does not want to open new areas for oil exploration. But SV can blame itself, says FRP leader Sylvi Listhaug.

– SV stated in its program that it will not further develop the oil industry. On the contrary, they would rather be done with it. It is a very unjustifiable policy, Listhaug told Politisk kvarter Hon NRK extension Monday morning.

Listhaug believed that Europe’s energy crisis would have been much worse if Norway hadn’t played the role we have as an oil and gas producer.

– We know that the world will need oil and gas for the foreseeable future, and therefore it is important for Norway to help produce it. We must ensure that democratic countries produce oil, and not leave it to Russia, Saudi Arabia and other regimes, which I believe will be dangerous, stressed the leader of the FRP.

– He should put his foot down

Listhaug believed that LO, which provides financial support to SV, was simply backing the wrong parties.

– They are working against the oil industry, and that LO then supported SV with five million crowns from the plant, so I think now you should step foot by the members and see if they benefited here, he said, and added:

– If there is less exploration, then there will be less discovery and therefore there will be less development of the Norwegian oil and gas industry, which is Norway’s most important industry.

– I apologize for this

Jørn Eggum, leader of the Fellesforbundet, which is LO’s largest union, agrees with Listhaug’s criticism of the shutdown of oil exploration.

– When it comes to the 26th round of concessions, I am the first to regret that SV has been given the green light to postpone it for three years. It shouldn’t have happened, because it’s important to have a foreseeable future for this industry, Eggum said in the debate.

At the same time, he stressed that Fellesforbundet members need both SV, the Labor Party and the Center Party.

“They need it to have a good cradle-to-grave life, that we should have good welfare, we should have good social policy and good working life policy,” Eggum said.

However, he believed it was a democratic problem that small parties gained so much power.

– Small parties in the Storting have in many ways found themselves in a veto situation so that you can get a majority for a majority for a budget, he said.

Eggum stressed that the support given to SV is adopted through democratic processes:

– A unanimous national meeting in 2019 said that SV, the Center Party and the Labor Party share the values represented by the Federation, in the same way that the rich support Sylvi Listhaug and the FRP, he said.

– Concerned business community

Listhaug pointed out that there has been a complete halt in investment in the aquaculture sector as a result of the government’s land rent levy.

– Under this government there have been unstable framework conditions for the business world. Previously, Norway was seen as a safe country to invest in, but that has changed. Business is worried now, he said she.

At the same time, he denied that there is no one on the FRP central council who gives financial support to the party, referring to LO’s post on the ODA central council.

– This is where you are. I would encourage Eggum to consider whether it would be worthwhile for you to continue that partnership, Listhaug said.

Listhaug herself helped stop oil exploration in Lofoten when she was in government with the Conservatives, Liberals and KrF, but she dismissed the criticism:

– We were not involved in the same, because we had licensing shifts that took place in several shifts.

– It’s not a bad conscience

However, SV does not have a bad conscience towards LO, even if he interrupts the 26th round of concessions.

– We don’t have a guilty conscience. It’s the money that helps us with the electoral campaign. While we disagree on the oil issue, there are many other issues on which we agree with LO and the Confederation, said Parliamentary Representative Lars Haltbrekken (SV) to Politisk kvarter.

Eggum also confirmed that LO will continue to support SV.

– Yes, SV has a large following among Fellesforbundet members, he said.
