Norwegian politics, Jan Bøhler | Only one in three older Somalis has said yes to the vaccine

The SP top in Oslo asks Somalis to take responsibility and goes down the throat at Raymond & Co: – You have not done enough.

The Center Party’s Oslo top Jan Bøhler is shocked by FHI figures which show that only one in three Somalis over the age of 75 has said “yes” to the vaccine, as Aftenposten writes.

Among Norwegian-born people of the same age, 19 out of 20 have said “yes”.

Bøhler is crystal clear:

– It is a duty and a responsibility to say yes to getting vaccinated! It affects so many others if you do not stand up for the community, also in the Somalis’ own environment, says Bøhler to Nettavisen.

– Also in the age group 54 to 65 it is about as low, only 34 percent.

– Here we are all dependent on everyone. This is very serious, he says.

– Solidarity, duty and responsibility

Bøhler believes that communication with immigrant communities must be improved:

– This is a question of solidarity, duty and responsibility.

Sp believes this raises questions about the entire corona handling in Oslo.

– I hope Oslo Municipality and the City Council now realize that the measures have not worked well enough, he says.

– They have probably made a great effort, but this proves that not enough has been done aimed at the districts that in the entire pandemic have had the highest infection.

– When I asked review in Nettavisen on 2 February, I was met with irritation and reference to social inequality and overcrowding while an FHI report that came out last week showed that these factors have played a minor role, the SP politician stated.

– The measures have not been good enough

– The measures have not been good enough, and now it must be dealt with quickly so that everyone understands how important this is.

– What do you think needs to be done?

– Now we must get a quick review of what more needs to be done to arrive. Here, infection control experts and those closest to the neighborhoods and use and own organizations must be used and active. We have no time to lose, he says.

Bøhler believes we may have become entangled in incorrect explanations of the main problems:

– I am afraid they have referred to overcrowding and that it is worse in other countries, without taking on the seriousness that the numbers have consistently been high during the entire pandemic in several immigrant communities, both in terms of number of infected and hospitalizations. We owe it to them to take this even more seriously and not explain away the problem.

Bøhler believes that it is more effective for professionals – doctors – to talk to, for example, Somalis, than for politicians to do so.

Several have stated surveys show that they have greater confidence in professionals.

– How surprised are you at the infection rates?

– I am surprised. The seriousness should have sunk in earlier. Those who have called around and have not received an answer received “no” locally, must have noticed this and have probably reported it.

Bøhler welcomes a completely independent and external investigation and believes that it does not hold that an underlying agency such as the Emergency Management Agency is responsible for it, as the city council said to Nettavisen last week.

– Here we must be free from bondage. We must learn from this pandemic, the handling here has not been good enough, he says.

Wednesday at 12 noon City Councilor Raymond Johansen (Labor Party) holds a press conference on new measures in the capital.

Choudri: – Many people are afraid of side effects

The general manager of the International Health and Social Group (IHSG), Tayyab Choudri, has spoken to a number of people in the Somali community from their network.

-We want to convey that there is a great deal of skepticism associated with taking the vaccine, Choudri says to Nettavisen.

– Many people are afraid of side effects and wonder how much the vaccine actually protects. Others think “when so many have taken the vaccine, I do not need.”

For him and IHSG, the most important thing now is that such precise knowledge and information is published to those concerned.

– It is so important to say yes to the vaccine. The more people who do it, the less skepticism there will be, he thinks.

Choudri is calling for more information on the effectiveness of the various vaccination programs.Feel free to watch this video interview with Jan Bøhler:
