THE STORING (Dagbladet): – I understand well that trust in Norwegian politicians is low.
Rødt leader Marie Sneve Martinussen is now asking the Storting to take action. The conclusion of the Control Committee’s review of the competency cases of Erna Solberg, Anniken Huitfeldt and Anette Trettebergstuen is expected this week.
– There is a crisis of confidence in democracy. Without trust, we have nothing. This is very serious for society, and the Storting must clean it up. The Storting has so far not done that in a good enough way, says the Rødt leader.

Lex Erna
Martinussen is launching a “package of measures for democracy”, which will get Norwegian democracy back on track: Then the politicians must be protected from themselves, according to the Rødt leader.
– We must do something to prevent cases such as the massive integrity scandal of Erna Solberg from happening again. This must never happen again, says Martinussen.
Recently, Storting’s deputy president Svein Harberg (H) asked the press to show a little more care in the search for good reports. It happened at the same time that VG did a big report on the bad citation of 90 words from a right-wing politician’s master’s thesis from 2011.
– There are certainly cases where the press goes too far, says Marie Sneve Martinussen.

The rescue package
The rescue package from Rødt contains a legal ban on the purchase of shares by members of the government or spouses, requirements for common routines for competence in the various ministries, especially in connection with appointments and grants, the possibility to review ministers’ competence assessments, and requirements for written competence assessments made by ministries.
The party also wants changes to be made to the Administrative Law’s provisions on disqualification, including that cohabitation be equated with marriage and that significant financial interests automatically lead to disqualification.
– There are also very serious cases of incompetence in politics. Sindre Finnes traded shares in Hydro 19 times, while Erna Solberg sat with business-sensitive information. We must separate snot and moustache. In recent years, we have had scandals about commuter accommodation, travel bills and the general benefits politicians in the Storting have, says the Rødt leader.
