Norwegian Police Officer Accidentally Hits Colleague with Electroshock Weapon (Taser) During Arrest

The phasing in of electroshock weapon in the Norwegian police has not been completely painless:

During an arrest by what the operations center of the Oslo police calls “a rabid man” outside the Joker store on Kolsås in Bærum on Saturday, a policewoman was hit by her colleague’s weapon, or taser.

On TikTok

The incident was filmed by onlookers, and is now spread on social media, including TikTok.

While the two officers are fighting with the man, who is sitting/lying on the ground and kicking and kicking with his legs, suddenly the policewoman also falls to the ground while screaming in pain:

“At! At!”

The TikTok user writes, with ill-concealed glee:

«Great police in Norway tazering themself [sic] instead of the man.»

Confirms

Oslo police district press chief Unni Grøndal confirms that the electroshock weapon accidentally hit a member of the patrol:

– In connection with an arrest of a person in the Kolsås area, the police used tasers to gain control of the person. In the basket attack that occurred, one of the police officers was hit by a “wire” from the taser, Grøndal says and continues:

– You may experience pain here and there, but it passes quickly. It also happened here. The police officer was quickly on his feet after being hit, and continued working to gain control of the situation.

Bite the police

Dagbladet mentioned the incident in question on Saturday evening. According to the police operations centre, the man the patrol got control of tried to break into the shop, and ransacked several cars on the spot.

In the basketball match, one of the officers was bitten, according to operations manager Bjarne Pedersen. A total of two officers are described as slightly injured after the incident.

50 000 volt

It was at the beginning of March this year that the police in Norway received permission to use electroshock weapons, which have long been in use in other countries, such as the USA. It is often preferred over other tools such as pepper spray and batons due to the greater range.

The weapon shoots out current-carrying electrodes, attached to metal wires, which hit the person to be rendered harmless. The wires carry a voltage of 50,000 volts, causing an intense pain that puts the victim out of action.

Due to the potentially strong current the voltage can cause in the body, tasers should not be used on the sick, pregnant and elderly.
