Norwegian polar hero is hailed in fantastic Gran Turismo video

The upcoming Gran Turismo 7 celebrates car history in a spectacular opening video – and a Norwegian polar hero.

The 1990s were a very important decade for the modern world. For this decade, both personal computers and laptops made their way into the thousands of homes, and the world we know was suddenly changed.

The entertainment industry followed up with new and groundbreaking game consoles, which to a very high degree included PlayStation (PS).

This Sony console was introduced in Japan just before Christmas 1994, and entered the rest of the world the following year. And became a huge success.

And the game that contributed the most to just this was called Gran Turismo (GT), a driving simulator with very realistic cars introduced in 1997.

At the time, the game consisted of 140 cars, and over 10 million games were sold for the original console.

Since then, the producer, Polyphony Digital, has developed Gran Turismo 2 (1999), Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (2001), Gran Turismo 4 (2004), Gran Turismo 5 (2010), Gran Turismo 6 (2013) and Gran Turismo Sport (2017).

In addition, Polyphony Digital has come up with a number of additional editions of the game, such that the total number of GT games is up to 15.

PlayStation itself has also come in several editions since 1994.

PS2 came in 2000, PS3 in 2006, PS4 in 2013 and finally the current PS5 at the end of 2020.

And since all PS editions have their own GT games, the PS5 needs this too. And the new console has now got it.

Polyphony Digital is notorious for postponing new games, as everything should be almost perfect. The new Gran Turismo game was shown already in the summer of 2020, so the wait has been long for GT 7 as well.

But now it’s over and the game is finally released.

GT 7 consists of over 420 cars and over 90 tracks, and will take the simulation of driving up to a new level in the game world.

And if we are to measure after the opening video, this should be very good.

This is a full 8 minutes, and Gran Turismo is not content with just showing cars, tracks and sequences from the game itself.

No, it just as well deals with car history – and a little more. And it is an ever so small masterpiece.

This is not just about car history milestones, but other important things have also found their way there. As the lunar landing, The Beatles, Titanic, yes even Charlie Chaplin are in place.

And a real Norwegian polar hero.

Fritjof Nansen was one of the architects when Norway left the union of Sweden in 1905, and received the Peace Prize in 1922 for the efforts he made for the war refugees after the First World War.

But he was also an adventurer and polar explorer, and his experiences made it possible for other polar explorers to explore new areas of the globe in a safer way.

For Gran Turismo, he is such an important person that he is hailed in the opening video for the world’s most important driving game series, and it almost never came.

But yes, for us Norwegians this is very fun! This is how the game series is too.
