Ole Saeter has been uncompromising. Courted by Maccabi Haifa, the Rosenborg striker (Norwegian D1) claims to have refused a very big offer from the Israeli club. The Norwegian press mentions an offer of 850,000 euros, rejected without batting an eyelid by the 28-year-old player.
“Even if a sum like $500 million were presented to me, the answer would still be a resounding no. My principles far outweigh any financial incentive,” he assured Norwegian television. “The people of this region live under constant threat, and I cannot accept what I consider to be blood-stained money, no matter how much it might be.”
“No amount of money can buy my conscience”
The Norwegian striker is obviously referring to the war between Israel and Hamas since October 2023. “For me, it’s not about money, it’s about my values that matter most,” continued the man who spent his entire career in the Norwegian league. “I can’t represent a country that perpetuates violence and insecurity. I believe in my values and I stand up for what I believe is right. No amount of money can buy my conscience.”
According to The MessengerSaeter is eligible to play for the Pakistani national team because of the nationality of one of his grandfathers. In July 2023, he posted a photo of himself wearing a jersey for Pakistan, a predominantly Muslim country.
