The captain of Arsenal, the Norwegian Martin Odegaard, signed a new five-year contract, the English club announced this Friday.
“The decision was easy for me to make. At Arsenal I feel comfortable from day one and it is really my home now,” said the player.
Odegaard, a 24-year-old midfielder, follows in the footsteps of his teammates Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba, who recently renewed.
This wave of new contracts reinforces the project of coach Mikel Arteta, whose team fought for the Premier League last year – won by Manchester City – and returned to the Champions League in the present.
“What we do is really exceptional. The players see what they bring to the coach, the progression of the club and the bond we have with the fans,” said Odegaard, initially on loan from Real Madrid in January 2021.
“Excellent news. Martin is a young player of great quality who allows us to be at a very high level,” said Arteta.
Odegaard scored 15 goals and provided seven assists last season in the Premier League.
Arsenal are fourth in the table ahead of Sunday’s game against Tottenham in a north London derby between unbeaten teams.
