GOTHENBURG. Michael Brandsegg-Nygård, 18, could push Norway into the A-WC.

He missed – and Germany decided.

– It felt too damn good when they cheered in front of our booth, says the Norwegian super talent.

Michael Brandsegg-Nygård, everyday in Mora, is expected to make history as the first Norwegian to be selected in the first round of the NHL draft this summer.

With five minutes left in the relegation match against Germany, he reduced it to 3–4. A minute later, teammate Mats Bakke Olsen equalised.

In extra time, Brandsegg-Nygård then had a golden opportunity to decide, but he did not get a hit on the puck.

– I didn’t hold the club hard enough. I knew the fit would be hard, but maybe not that hard. Bad of me, he says disappointedly after the match.

Germany turned the game around and decided through Moritz Elias.

– It felt too damn good when they started cheering in front of our booth and I just thought no… sad that I won’t be able to go over to Ottawa next year. That was the goal.

Leaving the A-VM

With the loss, Norway is out of Group A.

– I have played B-VM last year and A-VM this year. Even though we didn’t win any games, it was much more fun to play here.

What do you say to each other now?

– I do not know. I think everyone is just bored and wants to go home to Norway.
