Norwegian Golfer Viktor Hovland Leads RBC Heritage Tournament Despite Difficult Day

OUT OF THE BUNKER: Viktor Hovland in action on the ninth hole on Friday.

Viktor Hovland (25) had a rather difficult day in the RBC Heritage tournament – but the Norwegian is still in the lead halfway through.

The Norwegian is four strokes away from the lead – but it still holds for shared 5th place and all possibilities ahead in the last two days.

– He is right up there – that is the most important thing on a day like this, says Marius Thorp on the Discovery+ broadcast.

– He has not played as good golf as in Thursday’s round. The shots were closer to the pin and he also made several of the putts on Thursday, continues the expert.

Hovland did not have a single bogey (one stroke over par) in Thursday’s round.

  • On Friday, it was a battle to save par after a weak result already on hole three. It ended with the Norwegian’s first bogey of the tournament.
  • On hole eight, Hovland had a birdie on Thursday. On Friday, he suffered a bogey on the same hole.

Jimmy Walker leads clearly with -12. It is almost seven years since the 44-year-old last won a PGA tournament. He has a total of six PGA victories and one of them is actually a major: the PGA Championship in 2016.

The two profiles Scottie Scheffler, Justin Rose and Xander Schauffele are all at -9 after strong rounds on Friday.

Patrick Cantlay played brilliantly and had, among other things, a hole-in-one on hole seven. With -6, he is at -8 in total after two rounds.

Viktor Hovland went seven under par on Thursday’s round, while he finished at −1 on Friday, for a total of −8.

He came last weekend in joint 7th place in the prestigious The Masters on the Augusta course. But this weekend too, there is a very good starting field in place.

After the four major tournaments, there are six tournaments at the second highest level. These have 20 million dollars (207 million kroner) in prize money. “RBC Heritage” is one of these. The winner this weekend will receive approximately NOK 37 million.

PS: Viktor Hovland has made the cut in 15 straight tournaments.

The position at the halfway point:

1. Jimmy Walker −12.

2. Scotti Scheffler −9.

2. Justin Rose −9.

2. Xander Schauffele −9.

5. Viktor Hovland −8.

5. Mark Hubbart −8.

5. Tommy Fleetwood −8.

5. Patrick Cantlay −8.

5. Aaron Rai-8.
