The incident is said to have taken place on Wednesday afternoon over the Barents Sea, where a Norwegian fighter plane is said to have approached the Russian border.
The Air Force confirms the incident opposite TV 2.
– It is completely undramatic and routine. It was a Russian MiG-29 that was up and looking at one of our P-8 aircraft in international airspace around 10 o’clock, says communications manager Eivind Byre to the channel.
It was one of the new surveillance aircraft of the P-8A Poseidon type that was intercepted.
This is not the first time there have been incidents near the Russian border. Just over a week ago, Russia sent a fighter jet on its wings because a Norwegian plane allegedly approached Russian airspace.
