Norwegian fiasco: Casper Ruud knocked out in Båstad

The Norwegian is first seeded in the tournament and reigning champion but was defeated by the Argentine Francisco Cerundolo with the numbers 4-6, 6-3, 5-7.

After yesterday’s bang when Danish Holger Rune went out, it turned out that the surprises would last in Båstad.

The first set was even but 39-ranked Cerundolo held off to 6-4. World five Ruud did not want to give up but showed class and equalized in the second set with a clear 6-3.

In the third set, Ruud was on the bridge but picked up a 2-4 deficit in the game to equal when he broke the Argentine’s serve. Before the last game, it looked like it would go to a tiebreak, but Cerundolo broke the Norwegian’s serve and won the last decisive set 7-5.
