The truck looked bigger on the outside than on the inside. The customs officials were puzzled by this.

On Monday 27 November, a small truck drove over the old Svinesund bridge.
– It is not allowed to drive there if you are carrying goods, says section manager Per Kristian Grandahl at the Customs Office at Svinesund.
He says that the customs officers stopped the lorry and looked into the boot.
– It was empty, and apparently looked good. But, they were a little surprised that it looked bigger on the outside than on the inside.
The customs officers decided to let the dog Mike do a check on the truck.

– Mike marked the very front of the warehouse.
Then the customs officers decided to drive the lorry through the scanner at the customs station. Here they found deviations in the front part of the warehouse.
– It turned out to be a constructed room, which was made with smuggling in mind, he says.
370,000 cigarettes were hidden in the room, which Grandahl refers to as “a reasonable amount”. This corresponds to just under 1.5 million in taxes.
– How often do you make seizures like this?
– It’s not daily, but it happens every now and then. 370,000 cigarettes is a lot.
The man is charged with having illegally brought the goods into the country, without presenting them to the customs authorities. He has been detained for four weeks. NRK mentioned the matter first.
