The Norwegian cruise ship MS Maud suffered a power outage after a wave in the North Sea broke windows on the bridge, leaving the ship unable to navigate.
As European Pravda writes, the Danish authorities and the owner of the vessel reported this, informs Reuters.
According to the Danish Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, 266 passengers and 131 crew members are safe.
“There is no electricity on the ship. The main engine is working, but the navigation systems and radars are not,” said a representative of the center, which is responsible for coordinating search and rescue operations.
It is noted that while sailing approximately 200 kilometers from the west coast of Denmark and approximately 330 kilometers from the east coast of Great Britain, strong winds blew out windows on the ship’s bridge, which led to water ingress and, as a result, a power outage on the bridge.
The ship, owned by cruise line HX, a division of Norway’s Hurtigruten Group, left Flourjo in Norway on Thursday and was due to arrive at the British port of Tilbury on Friday.
“The ship has now confirmed that no passengers or crew were injured as a result of the incident and the ship’s condition remains stable,” the Hurtigruten Group said in a statement.
A tugboat from the civil salvage company Esvagt was expected to arrive at the vessel, which is being manually controlled from the engine room, at around 00:30 Kyiv time. Esvagt support vessels arrived to help the ship navigate until it could be towed to port.
Formerly the cruise ship Spirit of Discovery caught in a storm in the Bay of Biscay off the coast of western France, injuring 100 passengers.
Let us remind you that on September 12, the cruise ship Ocean Explorer, with 206 people on board, ran aground near eastern Greenland.
Two days later the ship refloated at high tide.
