Norwegian city of Drammen’s decision to accept only Ukrainian refugees is rejected

It was noted that the decision in question was unconstitutional and involved “direct discrimination based on nationality”.

Decision to accept only Ukrainian refugees

The right-wing parliament in Drammen had decided on February 13, with 28 “no” votes against 29 “yes” votes, to accept only Ukrainian refugees into the city.

The local council’s decision to accept only Ukrainian refugees on the grounds that they would “adapt more easily” was criticized by many MPs, including Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store.

Arguing that the decision taken in the city in southern Norway was “illegal”, Store stated that they did not have the authority to choose “which refugees” to accept.

It is stated that almost 1 in 3 of the 103 thousand people living in the city are either refugees or children of refugee parents.
