The Norwegian is said to have been arrested at Boris Gleb, which is located about two kilometers inside the Russian side of the border in the north. That’s what the newspaper writes Northern Lightsciting the Russian newspaper severpost.ru.
According to the report, the man was arrested by a border patrol from the FSB security service. A local resident is said to have tipped off the border guard about the incident.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will not comment on the matter to NRK at this time.
The Russian border is strictly militarily guarded. If you travel into Russia from Kirkenes, you have to pass several checkpoints.
The Russian newspaper does not write anything about when the Norwegian was arrested.
iFinnmark has been in contact with Norway’s border commissioner for the Norwegian-Russian border, Jens-Arne Høilund. He does not wish to comment on the matter and refers to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Høilund has so far not responded to NRK’s inquiry.
