Norway’s Stance on US-led Attacks against Houthis in Yemen: State Secretary Confirms Diplomatic Focus

Norway assists in the international coalition that will secure shipping traffic, but will not participate in declarations that support attacks against the Houthis inside Yemen.

Klasskampen writes that the US has asked for it twice in the last month.

– Norway was asked to stand behind US-led attacks against Houthi targets in Yemen, confirms State Secretary Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik (Ap) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He says Norway is in contact with the Houthis and would rather invest in diplomatic channels to reduce the level of conflict and prevent its spread.

– It was therefore not natural for us to join the declaration that the American authorities made about the situation in the Red Sea, says Kravik.

The Houthis practically rule Yemen and have attacked shipping in the Red Sea in connection with the Gaza war. It affects one of the world’s most important trade routes. The US has bombed targets on the ground in Yemen several times.
