The intelligence service and the police security service, which have handled the jamming of signals in Norway in peacetime. Now the army itself will be allowed to use jamming.
Jamming is used to disrupt, block or prevent the reception of signals from another station, and to affect GPS services. A tool the Russians have used over time in Norway. Now the Intelligence Battalion will be able to fight back, writes Klikk.no.
Øyvind Berg, who is commander of the Intelligence Battalion, part of the army, says that the jamme capacity will be introduced during 2024.
According to Berg, this is capacity Norway has not had in 15 years. The heavy jammers stand on armored tracked vehicles so that the Intelligence Battalion can operate together with Brigade Nord in high-intensity combat.
The noise transmitters that can jam signals are part of an upgrade. New and updated material for electronic warfare worth NOK 1.5 billion is to be fitted into various vehicles.
