Norway will increase its gas deliveries to Europe in the next twelve months, which should help alleviate the dreaded shortage this winter on the Old Continent. Energy giant Equinor said Monday it was allowed to increase production at its main extraction site, Troll, by 3% from October 1.

The surplus thus forecast for Europe should represent nearly 2% of annual gas exports from Norway. “We believe this is the right time given that Europe is facing a very tight gas market,” Equinor said in a statement.
Equinor is the largest supplier of gas to Europe, behind the Russian group Gazprom.
