Norway supports corona measures against China

NEW CORONA MEASURES: EU agrees on several corona measures against China.

Corona infection in China has skyrocketed after authorities eased strict measures. The EU has introduced new corona measures against the country.

Published:

Neighboring countries and Europe started to worry when the coronavirus started sweeping through China.

In Europe, several countries including France, Great Britain and Spain have introduced testing requirements.

The EU has now agreed several coronavirus measures against the country, which Norway also supports.

– Norway wants to be closely coordinated with other countries in Europe and supports a joint approach. We are happy that today’s meeting ensured this, says Health and Care Minister Ingvild Kjerkol.

BIG WAVE OF INFECTIONS:

Some of the agreed measures include testing wastewater from aircraft originating in China and at international airports.

Norway attended a meeting of the EU’s crisis management mechanism, IPCR, on Wednesday to discuss the coordination of measures related to the corona pandemic and the situation in China, the government writes in a press release.

– Not a new 2020

FHI has previously been clear that the situation in China is now not the same as it was when the pandemic began.

Subject Director at FHI, Preben Aavitsland, he told VG earlier this week that the situation is completely different now, compared to 2020.

Most are well vaccinated and many have already been infected with corona, up to several times.

– This is not a new 2020 as most of the world’s population has trained their immune systems, said Aavitsland.

Therefore, new waves of infections will not have such serious consequences as when the virus was completely new.

Restrictions removed

It was in early December that Chinese authorities abruptly lifted the toughest coronavirus measures.

Several citizens demonstrated after cities were shut down again as infection numbers started to climb. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, China has been pursuing a strict zero-covid strategy.

After the demonstrations, several measures were relaxed and the infection spread rapidly.

MEASURES RELEASED: China has also eased tough travel restrictions.

WHO director Tedros Ahanom Ghebreyesus said Wednesday he was concerned about the wave of infection going on in China.

He urged the country to provide timely and regular data on hospitalizations and deaths.

– We continue to ask China for fast, regular and reliable data on hospitalizations and deaths, Ghebreyesus said.
