Norway spends over 100 billion on disability benefits – Støre punishes the Conservatives

The number of young disabled people has also doubled since 2013, he writes NRK.

Labor leader Jonas Gahr Støre believes the figures show that the government’s policy has failed. Fewer disabled and more disabled in part-time work were among Prime Minister Erna Solberg’s (H) ambitions in the election campaign in 2013.

Among other things, she has launched a so-called inclusion charity, which should get more of those with disabilities or gaps in their CV to work.

– It is a policy I believe has failed. So there are more disabled people in Norway today. The most serious is that the number of young disabled people under the age of 30 has doubled, says Støre to the national broadcaster.

He calls for better mental health care and more work training.

Solberg acknowledges that the expenditure of NOK 100 billion on disability benefits this year is too great, and says the government will continue the work of including more people in working life if it is allowed to continue.

“Although the sum of those on disability benefits and work clearance allowance (AAP) has not increased during our government period, we know that many of those who come to AAP want to return to working life,” she says, adding that she is not satisfied even if employment has risen.
