ULLEVAAL (Dagbladet): Three international matches in less than a week: It is reminiscent of predation on Erling Braut Haaland (20) and the Norwegian national team players. And in Borussia Dortmund the alarm bells are ringing:
– Erling will always play. Naturally, I hope he continues to score. But I also hope that he does not come back injured or too tired, Dortmund’s sports director, Michael Zorc, tells the major newspaper Bild.
To Dagbladet, Haaland says about the three upcoming matches:
– It suits me well. I have played many matches since the last time I was here (at the national team gathering). I’m ready for three internationals.
It starts on Thursday. Then Serbia is the opponent in the European Championship playoff at Ullevaal. Three days later – on Sunday – Romania is an opponent in the Nations League. Another three days later – on Wednesday – Northern Ireland awaits, also in the Nations League. All matches take place at Ullevaal.
Usually, football coaches want a minimum of three days of recovery between matches. But here there will only be two days of rest, which can make the players more exposed to injuries.
When Haaland returns to Germany, Hoffenheim will be away the following Saturday.
– BVB concern for Haaland, writes Bild.
– Now begins the trembling time in Dortmund. Erling Haaland travels to three international matches in Norway. Dropping one of the matches is out of the question.
The fear is to get an injured superstar back. The Norwegian is the top scorer in the club with four Bundesliga goals this season. The reason why the international matches have accumulated is that Norway-Serbia should have been played in March. But this put an end to the coronavirus.
– Erling is a phenomenon, says sports director Zorc.
– When he runs towards the goal, there are forces of nature in motion. His left foot is an incredible weapon. He has an incomprehensible precision in the endings.
Haaland has been perhaps Europe’s hottest attacker in the last year. It seems obvious that he will start against Serbia, the most important of the three matches.
The winner will meet Scotland or Israel, and it’s about a ticket to the European Championship finals next summer.
So much is at stake against Serbia, that pinching, ball kicks and other nasty tricks can be some of the ingredients at a scorching Ullevaal on Thursday.
But Haaland does not allow himself to be intimidated:
– The Balkan guys… I think it will be an interesting and tough match. A lot is at stake. Of course it will be an intense battle. But I do not fear pig games especially from them.
– We know that we meet an experienced team. Among experienced players, there is “trash talk”. We must be prepared for that. If something happens, we must be extremely well prepared. I saw Erling stay completely cold when they tried to provoke him in a league match (against Augsburg). This is how we should act, give them a mocking grin. But I do not think it will be so tough. I think you’ll get to see a pretty clean match.
