Norway restricts alcohol sales and applies new restrictions amid spike in COVID-19 cases

MADRID, 4 One. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Prime Minister of Norway, Erna Solberg, has announced a battery of new restrictions to curb the spread of coronavirus in the face of concern about a rebound in cases, including a ban on the sale of alcohol in restaurants and in the events across the country.

This was announced this Sunday at a press conference by Solberg, who has also announced that private meetings outside the home may not be of more than five people and that stores and shopping centers will limit the capacity to maintain social distancing.

On the other hand, the maximum number of people for indoor sporting events, cultural events, ceremonies, among others, will be ten people, although “most of these events are not in line with national recommendations and, therefore, should be postponed. or be canceled “, reads the statement issued by the Government.

Regarding education, all education must be digital until January 18 and all schools in the country go to the red level, while teleworking is encouraged whenever possible.

All these measures will be applied for a preliminary period of two weeks, starting on January 4, since “infections are increasing and are spreading to new parts of the country,” the leader warned.

In addition to the mandatory measures, Solberg has also recommended that Norwegians should not receive home visits for the next 14 days, while Health Minister Bent Hoie has called for “a New Year’s social break for everyone.”

So far, Norway is one of the countries in Europe with the lowest incidence rate, with 50,523 accumulated cases and 436 deaths.
