The eldest son of the Norwegian princess, Mette-Marit, is suspected of a second rape. The Norwegian police announced the news on Wednesday, two days after his arrest.
The young man is the fruit of a relationship that preceded his mother’s marriage in 2001 to Haakon, Crown Prince of Norway. 27-year-old Marius Borg Hoibi was arrested on Monday night on suspicion of rape.
Police lawyer Andreas Kruszewski said a second suspicion of rape emerged during the investigation.
«It is sexual intercourse that took place without consent with a woman unable to react to the act“, he clarified on the sidelines of the hearing that took place on pre-trial detention.
The ongoing investigation suspects Marius Borg Hoibi of two counts of rape. At the same time, the police are asking to be placed in temporary custody, Andreas Kruszewski added.
The decision has not been made yet.
Investigators searched the suspect’s residence and made seizures.
The suspect’s background
Hoiby was arrested on August 4 after a fight at night in a woman’s apartment in Oslo and accused of causing bodily harm to the woman, with whom he was in a relationship.
Norwegian media reported that police had at the time found a knife wedged into a wall in the woman’s bedroom.
Hoibi was then arrested again in September for violating a restraining order.
According to police, he was in a car with the alleged victim of the August incident when he was arrested on Monday.
Hoiby has two half-siblings, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, 20, and Prince Svere Magnus, 18. They were all raised together by Mette-Marit and Haakon.
Unlike them, Hoibi has no official public role.
