Norway: Member of the royal family arrested for violating restrictive measures – 2024-09-15 03:19:11

Norwegian police today announced the arrest of the ancestor of Norway’s heir to the throne, the eldest son of Princess Mette-Marit, for violating restrictive measures imposed on him.

Marius Borg Heby, 27, was arrested in Oslo on Sunday, August 4, following a fight the previous night in an apartment in the Norwegian capital. He was charged with bodily harm and property damage at the home of the woman he was having a relationship with. The young woman received first aid but was not hospitalized, according to her lawyer.

Ten days after the incident, Hebi admitted that he attacked his partner, being “under the influence of alcohol and cocaine”. He revealed that he is dealing with “psychological problems” and that he has been “fighting for a long time” to detox.

“At the beginning of September, the police received information that Marius Borg Heby had, on several occasions, unwanted contact with the woman who was the victim in the incident (…) on August 4,” the police announced today.

Based on these complaints, “the police imposed restrictive measures on him, but recently it became known that Marius Borg Heby violated these measures and so it was decided to arrest him due to the risk of repeating the violation of the measures,” the police said, clarifying that the arrest it happened late last night.

According to Norwegian media, police pointed to a knife wedged into one of the woman’s bedroom walls in the apartment during the August 4 incident.

In addition, the police now suspect Hebi of committing criminal acts against three other people: domestic violence against two women and threats against another person.

Hebi’s lawyer told Norwegian broadcaster NRK that his client denies the charges.

The 27-year-old is an ancestor of Crown Prince Haakon and has been famous in Norway since he was a small child. Heiby was the fruit of a previous relationship of Mette-Marit who four years later, in 2001, married Crown Prince Haakon, the future king of Norway. The couple raised him alongside his two half-siblings, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, now 20, and Prince Svere Magnus, 18. Unlike his siblings, however, Marius does not have an official, public role.
