Norway is also the leader in the total number of awards with 29 medals. Norwegian athletes have won 14 gold medals, seven silver and eight bronze awards at the Beijing Winter Olympics. On Thursday, Espens Björnstad, Espens Annesens, Jens Luros Offtrob and Jorgens Grabaks won gold in the Nordic Duel.
In second place is Germany with 22 awards – ten gold, seven silver and five bronze. On Thursday, Daniel Maijere won the bronze medal in the freestyle cross-country skiing discipline, while the German athletes won silver in the team competition.
Eight gold, eight silver and four bronze awards have been won by US athletes. Britain Bouva was in the 1000-meter bronze speed skating on Thursday, while the women’s hockey team recognized Canada’s superiority in a fierce battle and won silver medals.
Sweden, which now holds seven gold and four silver and bronze medals, rose to fourth place thanks to Sandra Neslunde, who was awarded a gold freestyle in cross-country skiing.
China, with seven gold medals, is in fifth place, followed by Austria, the Netherlands and Switzerland with six top winners.
Latvia shares the 25th place with Belgium, Poland and Estonia with one bronze award.
Six sets of medals were handed out at the Beijing Olympics on Thursday, and five sets of medals will be won on Friday.
The Beijing Olympics take place from February 4 to 20.
After the Olympic Games, the Paralympic Games will take place in Beijing from March 4 to 13.
