Norway is preparing for the biggest storm in 30 years Mix

Ammon – Authorities in Norway warned that the country may witness the strongest storm in three decades, and urged people to stay in their homes.

Hurricane-force winds are expected to hit the mid-Atlantic coast on Wednesday, and airlines and ferry lines are anticipating disruptions.

Police warned of expected wind gusts ranging from 126 to 180 kilometers per hour.

By midday on Wednesday, there were scattered reports of the suspension of ferry services linking Norway’s islands, and the closure of schools, roads, tunnels and bridges in the country.

The storm, dubbed “Ingon” by Norwegian meteorologists, is expected to make landfall in central Norway around midday on Wednesday before moving north on Thursday.

VG newspaper wrote that the storm is expected to hit the same area that was struck by the New Year’s hurricane in 1992, one of the strongest storms in Norwegian history.

The authorities issued a red warning, the highest level, for the area surrounding the city of Trondheim, where strong winds are expected to blow on Wednesday. Another red warning was issued for the Lofoten Islands to the north along the coast in the Arctic.

No flights were canceled as of Wednesday morning.

The police asked people to avoid going out if possible, and to watch for flying objects if they do go out.
