NATO leaders are expected later Wednesday will decide to invite Sweden and Finland into the alliance. It happens after Turkey on Tuesday night entered into an agreement with the two countries and agreed to accept that they join NATO.

Støre also said that he will start the day by listening to the Ukrainian president and that Norway will contribute to strengthening Ukraine militarily:

– Norway will continue with what we have done since February: To assist Ukraine. In a collaboration with the United Kingdom, Norway contributes to Ukraine gaining access to more long-range artillery, Støre said.

– High demand

In a press release The Minister of Defense emphasizes that Norway will continue its support:

– We must continue our support for Ukraine so that they can continue their struggle for freedom and independence. More weapons are needed, and this is a highly demanded capacity for Ukraine that we would not have achieved without close cooperation with the United Kingdom, says Minister of Defense Bjørn Arild Gram (Sp).

Norway’s MLRS weapons are in stock, and the donation is considered to be justifiable in relation to its own preparedness. In the first place, three carriages will be donated.

Donate grenades

– This is a weapon that has range and precision, and which is therefore a significant contribution, says Gram.

– Our guns require extensive upgrading, therefore we have agreed with the British that they receive Norwegian guns so they can send some of theirs to Ukraine. This is an example of good cooperation between allies, says the Minister of Defense.

The government has further decided to donate 5,000 grenades to Ukraine. These are in addition to the 5,000 grenades already given.

– It is essential to ensure that Ukraine has ammunition for the weapon systems that have already been delivered, Gram says.
