– On the night of 25 June last year, we were awakened by the news of a brutal attack that hit queers hard. That night, there were individuals who showed special heroism and prevented more lives from being lost, says Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap) in a press release.
Two people were killed and 21 were injured in the attack on Per på Hjørnet and London Pub in central Oslo in June 2022.
Zaniar Matapour (44) has been charged with aggravated terrorism after the attack.
– The medal for noble deeds is one of the highest-ranking civilian awards in Norway, and the biggest award for a rescue act. It is very rare that the medal is awarded. The civilians made an absolutely extraordinary effort, and with this medal we want to honor each and every one of them, says Fisheries and Oceans Minister Cecilie Myrseth (Ap).
The medal is awarded by the Ministry of Trade and Fisheries, and the official presentation will take place in 2024.
Of the twelve awarded medals, one will receive the medal in gold, while eleven will receive the medal in silver, of which one will be awarded post mortem.post mortem.Receiving a medal post mortem means that he will receive the award after his death.
