Norway and France Women’s Handball Collaboration Impacts Competing Nations at Olympics

Make it even more difficult for Sweden: “It’s a bit special”

HERNING. Sweden is chasing France and Norway at the top of the world.

But now the two World Cup final teams make it even more difficult for the other countries to catch up.

The superpowers will be in camp together for 15 days before the Olympics.

France and Norway have met in three of the last four World Cup finals. After the victory tonight with 31-28, it is 2-1 to France in them.

But to these WC finals, we will add Norway’s final victory in EC 2020.

We are therefore talking about the great giants of women’s handball who, since 2010, have divided 13 out of 17 Olympic, WC and EC titles between them.

They are the ones Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands are trying to challenge.

But Norway and France are not making it easy for the chasing nations. Because the two superpowers help each other get better.

“It’s a bit special”

The two national teams have a close collaboration and just like before the Olympics in Tokyo, they will be in camp together. This time they will spar against each other for 15 days on the French Atlantic coast during the summer.

– We have a very good relationship with France. We will have three or four training sessions together and play two official matches against each other, says Mats Olsson, the Swede who is Norway’s assistant national team captain, and continues:

– It’s a bit special. But both prefer to do this instead of running around by themselves trying to find opponents in the summer. Hopefully we will meet at the end of the Olympic tournament and then it is better to be prepared, also against the other teams.

Norwegian playmaker Stine Oftedal on the setup:

– Thorir (Hergeirsson, Norwegian national team captain) strongly believes that if you match against the best, you play like the best.

But you don’t play all your cards during such a camp?

– Haha, no, you don’t do that, says Oftedal, who was once again selected for the all-star team in a championship.
